Important information for parents

The safety of students is our paramount concern. If parents/caregivers need to take their child from the school during school hours they are required to sign a register at the Front Office, before collecting their child from the classroom.

Parents are required to phone the school on the morning of the absence, followed by a note the next day explaining the absence.

All students enter and exit the school grounds in a safe manner.  School gates are unlocked in the mornings and afternoons for students to enter and exit the yard. During school hours, gates are locked to ensure that safety requirements are met.

Uniform

We expect students to wear clothing in our school colours of red, navy blue and white.  All children may wear shorts, trousers, track pants polo shirts and jumpers which can be purchased from the front office or local shops.

Girls may also choose to wear a skirt or blue and white or red and white check dresses or shorts. Clothing is to be sun safe, i.e. covering shoulders and upper body.

For safety reasons, children are expected to wear the school hat during Terms 1 and 4. Shoes, sports shoes or sandals need to be suitable for daily fitness and sporting activities (thongs, slip-on shoes or high heels are not suitable).

Canteen

A healthy menu is promoted by our Canteen manager who opens the canteen at 8:30 every morning to enable children to place orders. Menus are provided on enrolment and distributed periodically with school newsletters. Before school, children write their order on lunch bags provided in the canteen and pay at the counter. Class monitors collect the lunches at lunch time and deliver them to the class room.

Our canteen Hours are:
Morning – 8.30am – 8.50am
Recess – 10.50am – 11.10am
Lunch – 12.50pm – 1.30pm

Transition

Planned visits allow for a successful, friendly orientation to occur as students move into our school community from Pennington Kindergarten and other locations. For students who complete their intensive English programs and exit from their classes, school visits are organised to assist them as they make the next step in their learning.

Students graduating into secondary schools also participate in visits to their new high school or college

Parent involvement

Parents make a significant contribution to our school community and are encouraged to participate at a level at which they feel comfortable.

Many parents and caregivers are actively engaged in school programs. They help with reading, camps and excursions. Some provide assistance in the canteen, the Discovery Centre or with grounds or building upgrades. Others share their special skills and talents during special cultural celebrations. A committed group of parents and caregivers organise comprehensive after- school sports programs.

Other parents participate in our School Council, that meets twice per term, and school committees and contribute to important decisions on behalf of our school community.

Our Aboriginal parents are supported through the PACE program provided by Work ‘n Oz.
